The Advantages of Using Parts Made From Titanium

In the aircraft industry, using aircraft parts made from titanium is a great choice because titanium is a lightweight metal which does not cause too much weight and is resistant to corrosion which is essential in this industry.

Titanium is a metal that is often mixed with steel and aluminum. It is said that a titanium alloy is as strong as steel but is much lighter than the latter. Usually, most aircrafts nowadays use titanium fasteners such as screws because these do not rust. Its rust free property is caused by the oxide layer that forms on titanium alloys. Because of this oxide layer, the use of titanium is becoming more popular in many different industries.

The oxide layer in these titanium alloys makes the parts durable and sturdy, properties that are necessary in an aircraft industry. These screws are known for being lightweight but it also has a unique property which makes it special. It has an adherence property. A screw made from titanium adheres to any surface after some time due to the oxide layer which is formed on the surface.

Titanium is also able to handle high temperature exposures and at the same time maintaining its strength and durability. Most aircrafts nowadays utilize titanium because of its advantages. Such advantages include:

  • Lightweight – It does not add additional weight to the aircraft compared to other metals.
  • Corrosion resistant – It doesn’t rust unlike other metals because of the oxide layer that forms in the surface of titanium.
  • Tolerance to high temperature – Titanium can withstand high temperature while maintaining its strength.
