Mirrors, wind chimes, plants and touches of color at the right places can keep the good ch’i flowing in your homes.
With the growing popularity of feng shui, it seems that more savvy homeowners are learning how to keep the beneficial ch’i flowing in and around their living spaces.
There are several schools in geomancy, among which is Flying Stars feng shui, which takes into account a person’s birthday, birth year, birth time and gender. Lucky directions and lucky times of the year are prescribed and advice is given on what to wear, what to do, and what to avoid within a prescribed time period.
However, general feng shui advice is readily available for those who simply want some basic good-luck tips and protection, regardless of which animal rules the year.
Here are quick-fix feng shui tips:
1 The first rule is to remove clutter to let the ch’i flow freely into the house.
2 Balance and harmony must be established, so lamps, plants, mirrors, wind chimes and other remedies can be hung where these are needed to create or re-establish balance.
3 The third most important rule is to increase the amount of ch’i in a room or place. You need only to add mirrors, colors, crystals, lights or chandeliers to achieve a positive result.
4 Now for the specifics: Chandeliers are wonderful for attracting and reflecting ch’i. A chandelier placed at the center of the house (the Good Luck sector) benefits the entire home.
5 Mirrors are a favorite and effective feng shui remedy. Place them at intervals along one long hallway to deflect shay (negative) ch’i and make the good ch’i travel in a smooth, flowing direction. Use mirrors to attract beautiful exterior views like a lush, green garden or a serene mountain view into the house or to make small rooms look bigger. Multiply the amount of food on your table (and your prosperity) by hanging a big mirror in your dining area.
6 An effective place for mirrors is at the top of a staircase or on the landing. This stops the ch’i from flowing down too quickly. Smile at yourself as you look at the mirror. A friendly smile creates good ch’i.
7 Music and sounds also raise good ch’i. Wind chimes—metal, wood or ceramic—make natural music on their own. Every time you, the wind, or your guests sound the chime, good ch’i is attracted and circulated. For that matter, keeping music playing on the radio or keeping the TV set on also gets the ch’i going. Keep bells on your doors to let good ch’i come in!
8 Live objects attract ch’i. Pets that are happy and well cared for increase the good ch’i. Plants welcome life into dark and empty spaces and, when placed on sharp corners, help to deflect shay ch’i. Care for your pets and plants well and invite prosperity into your home.
9 Statues or pictures of animals make good feng shui remedies, too. Just don’t keep pictures of ferocious animals like tigers and lions inside your house. In China, pictures of tortoises are extra lucky. The three-toed frog that you see in Chinese shops and bazaars is supposed to bring money luck. Install one in your home or office and watch money grow.
10 Colors can be used as remedies as well. Work with whatever color gets your motor running. In general, the lighter and brighter the color, the better. But don’t forget that black stands for water and water stands for money. It’s your intention that counts!
